High awards for Helga Nowotny, CRI’s Scientific Advisory Board Chair

We proudly announce that Professor Helga Nowotny, CRI’s Scientific Advisory Board President, has received an Honorary Doctorate from University of Oxford as well as the Leibniz Medal of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences.

Additionally, as the Former President of the European Research Council, Prof. Nowotny was invited to participate in the recent search committee chaired by the European Commission to nominate the future ERC President.

Professor Helga Nowotny, a trained sociologist and jurist, is Professor emeritus of Social Studies of Science, ETH Zurich. She has held numerous leadership roles on Academic boards and public policy councils, and she has authored many publications the social studies of science and technology.

She received numerous awards and honorary doctorates in the past, for instance from the Weizmann Institute of Science or from the Universities of Edinburgh, Bergen, Leuven, Lancaster, Twente and Lüneburg. She is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, of the Royal Flemish Academy of Sciences of the Arts, the German Academy of Engineering Sciences acatech as well as a distinguished affiliated professor of the Technical University of Munich and Honorary Member of the Academy.

In 2017, Helga was awarded the Gold Medal of the Academia Europaea and the British Academy President’s Medal.
