The “Approches Interdisciplinaires de la Recherche et de l’Enseignement” (AIRE) Master programm welcomes creative and talented students to pursue their master studies in an environment as enriching as those of the best graduate programs in the world. The spirit of the master programme is to instill students with a sense of responsibility, and to maximize exchanges amongst them. The program is composed of three different tracks: Life, Learning and Digital Sciences.
The programme is based on learning through research pedagogy – rich with research internships and collaborative projects.

The AIRE program is offered by Paris Descartes and Paris Diderot Universities, and is hosted at the Centre de Recherches Interdisciplinaires (CRI).

The CRI’s main role is to promote new educational techniques and strategies to empower students to take initiative and develop their own research ideas. Mentors, research institutes, private companies, and foundations such as the Bettencourt-Schueller Foundation, provide the support for the student-created research projects and activities.

Under the general supervision of the directors of the programme, the coordinator of the Life Sciences (LiSc) track is responsible for managing all educational activities of the programme and provide support to the students to enhance their academic and professional development. The coordinator serves as the liaison between the students, their labs, the teachers, and the programme.

Job responsibilities

Specific tasks include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the Directors in realizing the missions of the Master Programme
  • Manage, organize and coordinate all educational activities of the programme in collaboration with other programmes at the CRI (e.g. with the PhD Programme)
    • Create partnerships with new teachers, collaborate with them and provide guidance to develop new courses and/or modify existing courses
    • Promote innovative pedagogical approaches in the development of courses
    • Organize and implement evaluation of teaching and courses and decide together with the Directors what courses to implement
    • Coordinate courses and activities with the other two tracks of the AIRE Master
    • Organize and coordinate schedules and logistics of all courses and activities
    • Coordinate teachers meetings 
  • Advise and follow the progress of students
    • Advise and mentor students from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds and career matters to encourage professional development and enhance pursuit of academic goals
    • Follow students throughout their training (discuss progress with teachers, and individual meetings with students, help students improve their skills where needed, advise students in their choice of internship with regards to their professional project)
    • Visit and establish connections with labs where students do their internships
  • Organize and implement student recruitment efforts
    • Assist in developing the student application and manage the online application platform
    • Advertise the application opening to target populations
    • Manage the application collection process
    • Participate on the pre-selection committee to choose top candidates for interview
    • Participate in the selection interviews and follow up on chosen candidates
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other pedagogic programmes at the CRI
    • Coordinate master activities with those of other programmes at the CRI
    • Participate on the pedagogic committee to ensure connection and collaboration with doctoral, masters and bachelor programs
  • Communication of AIRE-LiSc to the public and event management
    • Manage AIRE website content
    • Communicate news and events on social media
    • Designing promotional materials for recruitment and study guide
    • Organise monthly seminars: the Masterclasses
    • Organise learning expeditions in Paris area and abroad

Qualifications required

  • PhD in life science or equivalent experience in a related field
  • Experience in academic, scientific, or broader programming activities (e.g. event coordination and organization, community outreach, community management, scientific communication)
  • Fluency in English (both verbal and written)

Desired skills

  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, academic policies, ability to interpret and apply them, and ability to act when precedents do not exist
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow through on actions
  • Demonstrated experience working in teams and collaborating with individuals of diverse academic, professional, and cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and be proactive in adapting to new tools 
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, basis of scripting languages (e.g. Javascript, GoogleScript)
  • Thorough working knowledge of computer and internet applications including Google Drive, Word processing, spreadsheets, databases, social media platforms, calendars, email, etc. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, responsible, and dependable
  • Curious, creative, and adaptable to dynamic environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills; professional, diplomatic, and respectful attitude

Determinated contract full time for 6 months (maternity leave replacement)
